Marching Tycoon is the game version of everything I love about the marching arts: the grind of rehearsal, the slow build of a program, and the payoff when the season finally comes together. It launched on the App Store on June 7, and as of this week it’s on Google Play too — so the whole band is here. It’s free on both. 🥁

The Marching Tycoon field screen, one marcher deep

How it plays

You start with a single marcher on an empty field. Tapping the metronome earns Reps — the game’s currency — and tapping in time builds a streak that boosts your active play. It’s an idle game at heart, though, so the program keeps rehearsing while you’re away: close the app, come back later, and bank the progress.

Reps go into the things every band needs:

  • Staff — start with the practical hires; the later roles get strange in the best way
  • Equipment — gear changes your tap value, passive production, and how fast the block fills out
  • Seasons — hit the marcher goal, go to competition, earn a permanent medal, and roll into next season stronger

There are fifteen competition tiers, from local shows all the way to galactic finals. The field fills in as you grow, and watching a lone marcher become a packed formation never stops being satisfying.

Free, with one optional upgrade

The whole game is free to play. There’s a single optional in-app purchase — the Director’s Pass — if you want to support development and speed things up a bit.

Updates have been landing steadily since launch, and a browser version is in the works so you’ll eventually be able to play on the web too — more on that when it’s ready.

If you find a bug or have an idea for a future season, the support form goes straight to me.
